United Launch Alliance will kick off its 2017 launch manifest with a nighttime launch from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on Friday. A 19-story Atlas V rocket is set to leap off the pad at Launch Complex 41 with a 10,000-pound Space Based Infrared System satellite, or SBIRS. The satellite is the third in a series designed to detect ballistic missiles. The launch window for Atlas V's 69th mission opens at 7:42 p.m. Eastern time and closes at 8:22 p.m. Weather is 70 percent "go," according to the Air Force.
