Gov. Abbott severely burned in accident; could miss GOP convention

DALLAS, TX -- Republican Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas sustained "extensive second- and third-degree burns" on both legs below the knees and both feet - and may miss next week's Republican National Convention as a result, his office said Sunday. Spokesman Matt Hirsch said Abbott was with his family in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, on Thursday when he was scalded in an accident involving hot water. He declined to provide further details. The governor was treated for several hours at nearby St. John's Medical Center. As he was being released, a top aide called from Texas to say a gunman had opened fire in downtown Dallas - an attack that killed five police officers and wounded seven others. AP Read More>>>>

SECOND DOOM EVENT

Obama says U.S. 'not as divided as some have suggested'

Warsaw, Poland (CNN)Frankly acknowledging a "tough week" in the United States after anxious days of shootings and racial tensions, President Barack Obama said Saturday that he did not believe the United States was "as divided as some have suggested." "There is sorrow, there is anger, there is confusion about next steps," Obama said during a news conference in Poland. "But there's unity in recognizing that this is not how we want our communities to operate. This is not who we want to be as Americans." Speaking for the third time in Poland about the gun violence that's seized communities in the United States, Obama said the situation didn't resemble the periods of mass social unrest in the 1960s. "You're not seeing riots, you're not seeing police going after people who are protesting peacefully," he said. But he acknowledged a ramped-up anxiety that's descended on Americans as they watch seemingly unfettered violence on urban streets. "Americans of all races and all backgrounds are rightly outraged by the inexcusable attacks on police, whether it's in Dallas or anywhere else," Obama said. "That includes protesters, that includes family members who have grave concerns about police misconduct, and they've said this is unacceptable. There's no division there." CNN Read More>>>>>

THIRD DOOM EVENT

President Obama cutting Spain trip short to rush back to the U.S. in light of Dallas police shooting

It took the White House more than seven years to lock in Spain on President Barack Obama's foreign travel schedule. But events beyond Obama's control have turned his first and only visit to Spain, the largest European country that had yet to welcome the president, into a rushed one. Instead of spending two days sightseeing in southern Spain and tending to more official business in the capital of Madrid, the White House scrapped some of Obama's events – including a staple of his foreign travels, a question-and-answer forum with young adults – and crammed the rest of his schedule into Sunday. Deadly shootings last week of black men by police in Louisiana and Minnesota, followed by the sniper killings of five police officers in Dallas, led Obama to make the unusual choice to return to the White House late Sunday, a day earlier than originally planned. President Obama will head to Dallas on Tuesday and speak at an interfaith memorial service for the five fallen officers. Daily Mail Read More>>>>>>

Pictured: Wife who was sat in the crowd as her Spanish matador husband was gored to death - the first bullfighter killed in 30 years

The wife of a top bullfighter looked on in horror as her husband was gored to death during a festival in eastern Span. Victor Barrio, 29, from Segovia was fighting in Teruel, Aragon in eastern Spain when the bull speared him through the chest. His wife, Raquel Sanz, 32, was in the crowd, having organised a group of supporters from their home town to attend the event. Ms Sanz, who married Barrio in 2014, was said to be 'devastated' as she saw her husband lying motionless on the ground, according to El Espanol. The matador was taken to hospital unconscious but doctors could not do 'anything' to resuscitate him and save his life. He rolled to the ground in a painful somersault after the 87 stone beast caught him while he tried to deflect it with 'muletazo' manoeuvre, reports La Razon.es. Daily Mail Read More>>>>>>>
