MEDITATION ON The Nativity Of Our Savior Christ: Of The Joy Of The Angels At The Nativity Of The Son Of God: And Of The News Which They Related To The Shepherds POINT I ~ Luis de la Puente

THE XVIII. MEDITATION.

Of the joy of the Angels at the Nativity of the Son of God: and of the news which they related to the Shepherds.

THE I POINT.

1. First, I will consider what passed in heaven, at such time as our Savior Christ was born on earth. For the Hierarchies of the Angels, as they clearly beheld the infinite majesty, nd greatness of God: and on the other side saw him so humbled, so thrust up into a corner, and so unknown among men, they extremely admired this so great humility, and being very careful that he should be honored, and reverenced by all, desired, if almighty God would give them leave, to come down into the world, to manifest him, and make him known. Then did the eternal Father give that commandment unto all, which the Apostle St. Paul pondereth. Et cum tierm introduced primogenitum in orbem terrarum; dicit, & adorned cum ones Angeli eius. And when again he bright in the first begotten into the world, he saith: And let all the Angels of God adore him; he sayeth all, not excepting any one. And all of them from heaven adored with high reverence this Blessed babe, who being on earth beheld what they did. The Seraphims inflamed in love, beholding him held themselves as frozen, and with profound humility acknowledged him frothy almighty God. The Cherubims full of knowledge, in presence of this child, esteemed themselves as ignorant, and with great trembling adored him, and reverenced him as their Lord: And the like did the other quires of the Angels.

I rejoice (o all my good) to see thee so adored by the Angels: & it greiveth me greatly to see thee so forgotten, and unknown among men, I (o Lord) adore thee together with these blessed spirits, and do heartily desire that all men might know, and adore thee: and if it lie in my power, to give them notice hereof, Ecce ego, mitte me: Behold me here, send me, for if thou sensed me, I will fly with those wings which thou shalt give me; and like the Seraphines I will cry out through the world, saying: Holy, Holy, Holy art thou Lord God of hosts, the earth is full of thy glory, albeit with the smoke of the humiliation, which thou hast in this poor stable, it stems to be obscured.
