Florence is the City Half in Ruins Foretold in the Third Secret of Fatima and the Prophetic Vision of Dante : A big city half in ruins is the apocalyptic scene described in the message of Fatima where the Holy Father, Bishops, Priests and Laity of all ranks and stations in life are making their way through on their pilgrimage to the steep mountain. Dante prophetically describes this pilgrimage through the city in his Vita Nuova XL ix-x:

'Ah, pilgrims, moving pensively along,

thinking perhaps of things that are not here,

do you travel from towns as far away

as your appearance would make us believe?

You do not weep as you are passing through

the middle of the city in its grief;

you act like those who do not understand

a thing about its grievous weight of woe.

If you would stop to listen to me speak,

I know, from what my sighing heart is saying,

that afterwards you will depart in tears:

Lost is the city's source of blessedness,

and words that one can cay concerning her

have power to bring any man to tears.'

Dante’s procession in chapter XL of the Vita Nuova takes place in the City of Florence. Many commentators on this sonnet attest to this fact that Dante is describing the City of Florence. But what many do not know or pay attention to are Dante's prophetic words of warning to the City of Florence found in his letter addressed to the Florentines:

And if my prophetic soul be not deceived, which announces what it has been taught by infallible signs and incontrovertible arguments, your city, worn out with ceaseless mourning, shall be delivered at the last into the hands of the stranger, after the greatest part of you has been destroyed in death or captivity; and the few that shall be left to endure exile shall witness her downfall with tears and lamentation. Epistole (VI, 1-27)

Dante acknowledges this Divine gift of prophecy and tells of a time when the City of Florence shall be delivered at the last into the hands of the stranger and will be laid waste with the greatest part of you having been destroyed in death or captivity. Now this horrible event in the history of Florence has not yet taken place but will soon according to Our Lady of Fatima:

The Holy Father passed through a big city half in ruins and half trembling with halting step, afflicted with pain and sorrow, he prayed for the souls of the corpses he met on his way. Third part of the secret revealed at the Cova da Iria-Fatima, on 13 July 1917.

The Secrets and Message of Our Lady of Fatima is a historico-political prophecy yet to be fulfilled. The City where this above event is to take place is in a big city and it will take place because of some historico-political event. What is this historico-political event? It is most likely found in paragraph 67 of Pope Benedict’s new encyclical Caritas in Veritate calling for the urgent need of a true world political authority.
