Situation in Honduras
Hillary Rodham Clinton
Secretary of State
Washington, DC
June 28, 2009
The action taken against Honduran President Mel Zelaya violates the precepts of the Inter-American Democratic Charter, and thus should be condemned by all. We call on all parties in Honduras to respect the constitutional order and the rule of law, to reaffirm their democratic vocation, and to commit themselves to resolve political disputes peacefully and through dialogue. Honduras must embrace the very principles of democracy we reaffirmed at the OAS meeting it hosted less than one month ago.

Statement by MFA Spokesman Andrei Nesterenko Regarding Situation in Republic of Honduras
1049-29-06-2009Moscow has received with deep concern the news of the coup in the Republic of Honduras carried out by the country’s armed forces on June 28. The forcible removal from power of a lawfully elected president is a direct violation of the Honduran constitution and a gross outrage upon the fundamental norms of democracy. Russia strongly condemns these actions and calls for the early restoration of law and order in Honduras. All actions by the participants of the political process in the country must be within the constitutional and legal field. Any other path is fraught with further destabilization of the situation. Russia welcomes efforts, including those by regional organizations and associations of the countries of Latin America, aimed at devising ways to exit the critical situation within the framework of international law. This should be in accordance with the existing constitutional order of Honduras, the principles of rule of law and democracy. The EU highlights the importance of restoring the constitutionality and stability of the political and security situation in the country, and underlines the importance of ensuring that fair, timely and transparent presidential elections are held in November 2009. The constitutional rules and respect for human rights are the cornerstones of democratic governance anywhere in the world. France Ministry for Foreign Affairs
Situation in Honduras (28.06.09)
France condemns with greatest firmness the coup d'etat which has just occurred in Honduras.
The arrest of the diplomatic representatives and their forced expulsion constitute a serious violation of the convention of Vienna. They are inadmissible. The constitutional order must be restored as soon as possible. France invites all the involved parts to act in the respect of the principles and the values of the democracy. The future of Honduras is indeed indissociable democracy and any contrary evolution to its standards would constitute a serious retreat for this country.
