According to the Church all Old Testament prophecies have been fulfilled in Jesus Christ. The Church allows Old Testament prophecies to be applied to those who closely imitate (or shadow) the life of Christ, especially the Church Herself. As Dante Alighieri declares: ‘The form of the Church is the life of Christ’. The Church closely follows in the footsteps of her Spouse. The following is the prophecy of Zacharias and his vision of the golden candlestick, seven lamps, and of the two olive trees:
‘And the angel that spoke in me came again: and he waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep. And he said to me: What seest thou? And I said: I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold, and its lamp upon the top of it: and the seven lights thereof upon it: and seven funnels for the lights that were upon the top thereof. And two olive trees over it: one upon the right side of the lamp, and the other upon the left side thereof. And I answered, and said to the angel that spoke in me, saying: What are these things, my lord? And the angel that spoke in me answered, and said to me: Knowest thou not what these things are? And I said: No, my lord. And he answered, and spoke to me, saying: This is the word of the Lord to Zorobabel, saying: Not with an army, nor by might, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts. Who art thou, O great mountain, before Zorobabel? thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring out the chief stone, and shall give equal grace to the grace thereof. And the word of the Lord came to me, saying: The hands of Zorobabel have laid the foundations of this house, and his hands shall finish it: and you shall know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me to you. For who hath despised little days? and they shall rejoice, and shall see the tin plummet in the hand of Zorobabel. These are the seven eyes of the Lord, that run to and fro through the whole earth. And I answered, and said to him: What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick, and upon the left side thereof? And I answered again, and said to him: What are the two olive branches, that are by the two golden beaks, in which are the funnels of gold? And he spoke to me, saying: Knowest thou not what these are? And I said: No, my lord. And he said: These are two sons of oil who stand before the Lord of the whole earth.’ Prophecy Of Zacharias 4:1-14
Present day Jews claim that the Roman Catholic Church is in possession of the Menorah a candelabrum having seven branches, it is apparently hidden away in some deep dark Vatican vault,originally taken away from the Temple by the Roman Emperor Titus during the destruction of the Jewish Temple. Of course some present day Jews want it back. Well not only can one believe that the Roman Catholic Church is in possession of this golden candlestick. The Roman Catholic Church is this very golden candlestick!
‘behold a candlestick all of gold, and its lamp upon the top of it: and the seven lights thereof upon it: and seven funnels for the lights that were upon the top thereof.’ Zacharias 4:2
According to the commentary of Bishop Challoner: ‘A candlestick, &c. The temple of God that was then in building; and in a more sublime sense, the Church of Christ.’ And from Worthington: ‘Some, with the Jews, apply this to the synagogue: but most explain it of the Church, the lamp denoting Christ, and the seven lights all his pastors; the two olives, Enoch and Elias, Apocalypse xi.’ With the two above commentators and others, it is reasonable to say that the Roman Catholic Church is represented by this golden candlestick.
The following is the description of the two olive trees:
‘And two olive trees over it: one upon the right side of the lamp, and the other upon the left side thereof’. Zacharias 4:3
The angel explains that the two olive trees are Jesus the high priest, and Zorobabel the prince. These are the two authorities that stand watch, Jesus the high priest, representing the Spiritual Authority and Zorobabel the prince, representing the Temporal Authority. In present day terminology the Spiritual Authority is the Holy Roman Pontiff and the Temporal Authority is the Holy Roman Emperor. This is the proper interpretation of the vision of Zacharias. The candlestick all of gold is the Roman Catholic Church and the two olive trees over it: one upon the right side of the lamp, and the other upon the left side thereof are the Holy Roman Pontiff and the Holy Roman Emperor.
This is the vision for our times. This is the vision that is misunderstood today:
'And I answered, and said to the angel that spoke in me, saying: What are these things, my lord? And the angel that spoke in me answered, and said to me: Knowest thou not what these things are? And I said: No, my lord.'Zacharias 4:4-5
Misunderstood because one of these olive trees has been removed from its place. So the vision remains incomplete. No longer does the temporal olive tree feed the golden candlestick ‘which was supplied with oil, dropping from the two olive trees, and distributed by the seven funnels or pipes, to maintain the seven lights.’ So how does this vision of the Church once again perfect itself? Both olive trees are needed to feed the golden candlestick with oil. If not, then this prophecy Of Zacharias does not pertain to the Holy Roman Catholic Church. It is that simple. Either the Holy Catholic Church once again is protected by both olive trees, that is, protected by the Spiritual Authority of the Holy Roman Pontiff and protected by the Temporal Authority of the Holy Roman Emperor or this is a failed prophecy. So what follows? How does one restore the Holy Right Arm of the Church? God help us to know!
'This is the word of the Lord to Zorobabel, saying: Not with an army, nor by might, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.' Zacharias 4:6
Clear enough, but what follows next? Who was it that removed the olive tree? Who removed the olive tree of Zorobabel representing the Temporal Authority? Who removed the Temporal Authority of the Holy Roman Emperor from his place?
'Who art thou, O great mountain, before Zorobabel? thou shalt become a plain:and he shall bring out the chief stone, and shall give equal grace to the grace thereof. ' Zacharias 4:7
O great mountain did this. Modern man did this. What new hell is this that modern man created for himself? Modern man removed the Temporal Authority of the Holy Roman Emperor from his place so as to be govern own their own terms, not govern by the terms established by Divine Providence.
'And the word of the Lord came to me, saying: The hands of Zorobabel have laid the foundations of this house, and his hands shall finish it: and you shall know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me to you. For who hath despised little days? and they shall rejoice, and shall see the tin plummet in the hand of Zorobabel.' Zacharias 4:8-9
What was created by Divine Providence will be finish by the same. Not on mans terms, not with an army, nor by might, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts. But how does this Divine help come about?
'These are the seven eyes of the Lord, that run to and fro through the whole earth' Zacharias 4:10
The seven eyes are the providence of God, that oversees and orders all things. This will be our help. When the restoration of the Divine Authority of the Holy Roman Emperor is established then men will be able to ask:
'And I answered, and said to him: What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick, and upon the left side thereof? And I answered again, and said to him: What are the two olive branches, that are by the two golden beaks, in which are the funnels of gold? And he spoke to me, saying: Knowest thou not what these are? And I said: No, my lord. And he said: These are two sons of oil who stand before the Lord of the whole earth.’ Prophecy Of Zacharias 4:11-14
The Holy Roman Pontiff and the Holy Roman Emperor : These are the two sons of oil who stand before the Lord of the whole earth!
